The National Pedigree Centre: Elite Breeding Sales

Worcester Livestock Market is more than a commercial exchange; it is a National Centre of Excellence for Pedigree Livestock. By combining state-of-the-art facilities with a deep understanding of breed genetics, we have earned a prestigious reputation as the UK’s premier destination for high-value breeding stock.

Our auctioneers don’t just sell livestock; they are guardians of breed standards, acting as official representatives for no less than 25 pedigree cattle and sheep societies.

Official Society Auctions & High-Profile Events

Worcester acts as the primary stage for the country’s most prominent breed societies. We host a rigorous schedule of national, regional, and club sales throughout the year.

  • National Breed Showcases: We provide the infrastructure for “blue-ribbon” events where the finest examples of British livestock are judged and sold.
  • Society-Backed Transparency: Because we work directly with societies, buyers at Worcester are guaranteed that every animal is fully registered, DNA-verified (where applicable), and meets the strict health and structural requirements of its respective breed.

Genetic Excellence & Data-Driven Trading

In the modern agricultural landscape, “elite genetics” are defined by performance. Worcester is at the forefront of data-driven livestock trading.

  • Performance Records (EBVs): Our sales catalogues integrate Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) and Maternal Indices, allowing buyers to invest in traits like growth rate, muscling, and lambing ease with scientific precision.
  • The McCartneys Network: Worcester serves as the eastern anchor of a “Golden Triangle” for pedigree trade. With seamless links to our sister markets in Brecon and Ludlow, we provide a unified network that allows breeders to move elite genetics from the Welsh uplands to the heart of England and beyond.
  • Global Reach: Our reputation attracts international buyers seeking “The Best of British” genetics, often facilitating export-approved sales for European and global markets.

Specialist Facilities for Premium Stock

Elite animals require elite care. The Heath Meadow site offers specialised amenities to ensure pedigree stock is presented in peak condition:

  • Professional Grooming & Preparation Areas: Dedicated spaces for washing and “dressing” animals prior to entering the show ring.
  • High-Visibility Auction Rings: Designed to showcase animal movement and conformation under professional lighting.
  • Biosecurity Excellence: Stringent cleaning protocols to protect the high-value health status of pedigree herds and flocks.

Premier Equine & Horse Sales in Worcester

As a primary hub for the West Midlands equestrian community, McCartneys Worcester has established itself as a national destination for professional equine auctions. Our facilities at The Heath Meadow handle high-volume sales, while ensuring the safety and comfort of the animals. These auctions consistently draw a diverse crowd, from local hobbyists to specialist breeders.

Monthly Horse & Pony Sales (April to September)

Running throughout the spring and summer, our monthly sales are the region’s most reliable marketplace for a wide variety of horses and ponies.Saddlery & Tack Auctions: Each sale begins with an extensive auction of new and used saddlery, tack, and equestrian equipment. This makes Worcester a "one-stop shop" for those looking to kit out a new horse.Horses for All Disciplines: We regularly feature everything from dependable family cobs and "Pony Club" types to high-potential competition prospects.

Specialist Society Sales: The National Shetland Hub

Worcester is proud to be the home of the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society Show & Sale every October. This event is a landmark for the breed, attracting enthusiasts from across the UK and Europe to Worcestershire.Elite Bloodlines: Buyers attend specifically to secure registered Shetland genetics that are rarely available in general sales.Show & Sale Format: The event combines a formal showing class, allowing buyers to assess movement and conformation followed by the auction, ensuring the highest standards of transparency and quality.

Official Appointments: British Spotted Pony Society

In a testament to our expertise in niche breed auctions, McCartneys is the Official Auctioneer for the British Spotted Pony Society.September Showcases: Our September sale will feature a dedicated showcase for these striking ponies. This partnership ensures that both buyers and sellers benefit from a concentrated marketplace of breed-specific experts.National Reach: As the official auction house, we facilitate the trade of quality spotted ponies for both show and pleasure, cementing Worcester’s status as a centre of excellence for British native and specialist breeds.
