McCartneys Portcullis Auction Room reports a typically smaller sale of 350 lots for January. However, results were very buoyant generally with enthusiastic bidding both in the room and on the internet platforms.

Fine Art & Antiques Sales – 2026 Dates Now Available

 

Following a successful 2025, we are pleased to announce our Fine Art, Antiques and Collectables sale dates for 2026.

Held in The Auction Room at our Head Office, Ludlow Livestock Market, our monthly sales continue to go from strength to strength. With a bespoke sale room designed specifically for antiques and fine art, the department has enjoyed strong vendor support and competitive bidding throughout 2025, regularly attracting 500–600 lots per sale.

Our experienced Auction House team, including qualified valuers, dedicated administration staff and knowledgeable sale room porters, are on hand at every stage to offer advice, guidance and practical support. Whether you are consigning a single item or a full collection, we pride ourselves on delivering a professional and approachable service.

In addition to our monthly auctions, we offer assistance with house clearances, along with valuations for sale and probate purposes, providing a complete and trusted service for clients across the region and beyond.

All sales benefit from two online bidding platforms, alongside the option to attend and bid in person in the sale room, ensuring maximum exposure and competitive bidding for every lot.

With the momentum built throughout 2025, we look forward to another strong year of sales in 2026 and welcoming both new and returning clients to our Auction Room in Ludlow.

Fine Art, Antique and Collectables Sale Report – Thursday 16th January 2025

What a start to our calendar of sales for 2025, an excellent catalogue of quality items covering a wide range of lots.

We were able to offer several lots of studio pottery from private individuals which created lots of interest with many lots selling from £400 – £1,400 this type of pottery is extremely popular at the moment.

Lot 26 was an earthenware dairy bowl complete with a cast inglenook pan, the dairy bowls rarely come to sale and spirited bidding led to a final figure of £1,050.

Ceramics and accessories sold from £520 – £720 again with lots of on-line bidders.

Our picture section received a watercolour by James Dickson Innes 1887 – 1914 a water colour of Kidwelly castle signed lots of on-line and phone bids culminated in a figure of £2,800.

A lovely selection of Elizabeth Full Sovereigns sold from £420 – £460

Silver ware always popular sold to £500 for a George V teapot. Gold items on offer realised £800 for lot 293 a Victorian Bracelet. A gold signet ring 20g sold to £850,Pair of 18ct cufflinks 14g @ £600,a Victorian Bracelet & sovereign combined @ £1,900,Necklet chain 51g sold to £950.

A fantastic sale result with two on-line bidding platforms, phone bids, and lots of people in the sale room we look forward to our next sale on February 20th ‘ 11.00am.
