Following on from recent legislation where property owners can now face fines up to £1,000 if they fail to cut down their high hedge the fast growing and much-beleaguered Leylandii tree is facing another adversary.
A small sap-sucking aphid is running riot throughout Britain turning the Leylandii leaves an ugly brown colour and eventually killing the tree.
Gardening purists say good riddance to this non-indigenous and fast growing tree but to many others who like the fact that their gardens can be rendered completely private after 5 years or so it is not so good news.
Needless to say reports indicate that garden nurseries are fast running out of stocks!
